1980 Turkey Track National Enduro Results

Originally posted at Enduro / Hare Scrambles riders from the 70's / 80's

Cool memories.

Not just the enduro. I arrived early Saturday for the enduro and was relaxing, watching an Apache helicopter hovering 40ft up in the air, 50 yards away. Hypnotized by it's narrow profile. Then it was gone.

This is something you would only see at an old enduro held at an Army facility in the 70's or 80's. It's hard to imagine an enduro today on a military facility with the constant security threats. We were lucky we had these events. Riding the enduro the following day, Sunday, with the tank tracks visible. Cool.

My memory includes that I was competing in Scotts Plastic MX Boots for the first time, and got the most painful blisters from the new boots! My times were very poor due to the discomfort I began experiencing, particularly every time on put my foot down due to the very muddy conditions. And the pain persisted, although I remember the day of the event being clear and sunny as it rained at night. I tried riding with my feet on the pegs as much as possible to prevent the pain but the mud was so slick I wasn't really succesful. But it was a finish - Nationals were always the most difficult, long events.

I solved the boot issue by getting a better , more correct for my size liner, which is how these boots were fitted. I should not have entered an event with new untested gear.
